Open Ended Therapy:

The psychodynamic approach looks to focus on how current issues may have originated from the past or earlier experiences i.e how your past affects your current situation. Understanding this helps facilitate long term change. Working in an open-ended way provides the time and space for deeper exploration of issues and their unconscious origins and manifestations. It gives us the opportunity to think together in a safe and contained way.

By identifying the roots of your experiences, we can learn to recognise and make sense of your current experiences and responses which can then better equip you in dealing with the complexities of life.

It may be that you feel uncertain about whether open-ended therapy is suited to you, or your needs may change during the course of therapy; these are things that can be discussed and explored in the sessions.

Time-Limited Therapy:

Psychodynamic psychotherapy can also work in a time limited way and I offer this in the form of 12 week sessions. This works by providing a specific area or focus in the work, for instance specific to a relationship problem, work, etc.

With time limited therapy, we would work towards an agreed schedule that includes breaks or planned absences during the 12 weeks. During this time, the sessions might bring awareness to other areas of your life you may feel would benefit from exploration. If this occurs, or if your needs change and you feel you would like to access more sessions, we can explore a number of options to support your needs.

What next

If you would like to seek therapy, I offer a free 15 minute consultation where we can discuss your needs and whether we may be able to work together.

***

Following a 15 minute free consultation, I offer an initial consultation which lasts 50 minutes. During this we can discuss your reasons for seeking therapy in more depth and the options available for proceeding with therapy. In this session I will ask more questions about your background and history so I am able to get a sense of who you are and how we can work together.

***

If we both agree to commence with sessions, we will arrange a time for regular sessions that last 50 minutes and take place on the same day and time each week.

Should working together not be possible for any reason, I will suggest and offer you alternative therapists/organisations to consider.
